The Great Fishing Triangle of Lake Ontario

The triangle between Stony Point to Sandy Pond to the Main Duck offers the greatest fishing triangle of the Eastern Basin of Lake Ontario. This is 100 square miles providing the finest fishing hotspots in the most beautiful Lake of the Great Lakes. Boating out of Henderson Harbor you pass the high rises of the Trench and the Lighthouse on Stony Point to enter the fish enriched deep beautiful Eastern Basin of Lake Ontario. Fishing in the this great lake has never been better! Expect catches of salmon, trout, walleye, and bass on any given day. Grand Slams are common (a mixed bag from each species). This is a fishing paradise.

THE KING SALMON (CHINOOK)

Best fishing times from the 4th of July through the middle of October, millions and millions of pounds of Salmon run through the triangle going to every stream and harbor in the basin. The average size of this fish is 25 pounds in the triangle smallest around 10 pounds, largest can be 40 pounds. We fish early mornings to mid afternoons, weather permitting on a beautiful day the Captain may give you some extra fishing time enjoying a summers day.

STEELHEAD TROUT

This species can be fished all summer long from ice out to hunting season and beyond, miles off shore is where we fish in deep crystal clear water. There’s nothing like a leaping steelhead breaking water with flashing silver and a spotted square tail. If you haven’t tried it ask our Captain’s to give you the opportunity for this thrill. The size of these babies runs from 10 to 20 pounds. They are a breath taking experience to catch.

ATLANTIC SALMON (LANDLOCKED)

Here is one species that truly provides the most spectacular leaping and tail walking experience a fisherman can ever, ever realize. These Salmon are stocked yearly as are all of our fish (5,000,000) and can be found on any given day anyplace in the triangle. Atlantic’s are known for their tail walking and are a delicate eating fish, a gourmet’s treat.

LAKE TROUT

A true bread and butter fish, found in abundance throughout the triangle. The average size is 12 pounds with 15 to 20 pounders caught every day. You can’t get away from them! Catches of 50 Lake trout on one trip are common. They are incredibly mixed with other species. These fish keep you busy popping them rods on the downriggers with not a moment to relax! Lake trout are a excellent eating fish put on an open grill wrapped in tin foil with lemon, salt and pepper. What a great way to finish a day of fishing! - fresh trout on the gas grills of the Captain’s Cove Motel sundeck!

NORTHERN AND WALLEYE PIKE

Both of these species are found along the shore line of our bays and a short ways off shores Northerns give us a great fight with light tackle, most averaging 10 pounds, full of vicious surges and runs and constantly trying to break our lines. walleye are probably the most delicious pan fish caught here! Trolling or jigging are the most favorite methods forcatching them. Walleyes average from 8 to 10 pounds with 12 to 14 pounders caught daily. On rough days in early summer and spring this is the most comfortable type of fishing close to shore and out of harms way.

SMALLMOUTH BASS

This species is the favorite for summer fishermen and families alike! They are readily accessible from almost any size boat and almost anywhere on the Lake. Worms, minnows, or crawdads can be will make the youngest to the oldest angler into a happy fishing person. These scrappy fighters bite from morning to night just aboutt any place you drop an anchor. Smallmouth are common from within the Henderson area to as far west as the Ducks and as far south as the Sands. A few of these slabs on a grill will make a treat for dinner after a day of great fishing.
